No. I wear cushioned running shoes because I have a bone spur. Fuck your rules. If I squat I go bare foot.

Because everyone is butthurt, here's some Desitin for your opinions. Running shoes are created to have a higher softer heel for impact and uses that energy to propel you forward. They're not created to keep you stabilized or grounded, that's why they're running shoes. Squatting when your center of gravity pushing you forward will only cause injury. For those arguing, how're your knees? Either wear fitness styled shoes, minimalist shoes, barefoot shoes, or get those dogs out.

For all of you mad, he's actually right. If you lift heavy, with the intent of strength training and/or bodybuilding, and you do the big compound movements like squatting and deadlifting, you really DO need the right attire. Once I switched to actual squat shoes, my knee pain on squats completely disappeared. Also, I was able to lift MORE.

The hate on this thread is a bit unwarranted! As you start lifting higher loads, you realise how uncomfortable running shoes are. For one, you can’t really curl your toes to grip the ground which is needed for Deadlifts, Squats etc.

Train barefoot. Unless you're running, don't do that barefoot. I do both and love them equally. I heavily dislike strength training in shoes. It feels wrong.
