The fact that your middle schoolers can say “The Wizard used propaganda” gives me so much hope about the world.

Isn’t it amazing how wrong middle schoolers can be?

I am also not a fan of the choreography, so A+ for that student!

Part one = kids are dumb Part two = hold up, maybe not

Part 1: kids are processing art as it relates to the world around them. Part 2: the kids recognize art for its ability to filter truth and offer a chance to interpret the world around them and how it relates to self and community.

We showed the Wizard of Oz to SpEd high schoolers. They hated it. One even said he liked the “ original “ over the Rainbow by the Hawaiian guy.

Lol! When we were studying “Romeo and Juliet” in Middle School, the original broadway play of “West Side Story” came out, and there was a television performance of it at the same time. We were given an assignment to watch it, and then write an essay comparing and contrasting it with the Bard’s play. One of the things I mentioned in my essay is that it was unrealistic for a group of kids to be singing and dancing as they walked down the street. (I grew up in rural MN, where ppl are 1/ 🧵

I took an ex to see Sweeney Todd in the movie theater and he said there was too much singing. I had no idea he didn’t realize it was a musical! 🤣

I always thought people walking around singing their thoughts during every day activities was weird until I gave birth to a theater kid.
