I’m 52 and this same thing happened to me last year. I instantly became close with a woman in her early 30s. Everything was great, until a few months ago, she made a rude remark about my boyfriend of 8 years. I cut off the friendship, because I didn’t feel right about being close to her or having my boyfriend around her after what she said. The comment revealed her true opinions, which can’t be taken back, despite an apology. She didn’t apologize properly, either. So, I’m back to no friends!

That's the problem: as soon as you find someone nice, they want to go out. I like to talk to people, but I don't go out. They end up thinking I'm rude or something so, I prefer to avoid the drama.

I met some decent friends at my job including my best friend. But these days it just feels like things have really shifted & things are different. It's just hard.
