Get copies of tax returns, investments, deed to the home and do it before you ask for a divorce so nothing can be changed afterwards. Get your own credit cards and bank account.

Immediately file for a Legal Separation. This is legal financial protection that neither of you are liable for any purchases made by the other. Or if one is in an accident the other isn’t financially responsible. If you decide to remain in your marriage the Legal Separation can be discontinued.

Embrace it…The process will suck, but when you get to the other side, you’ll realize it’s for the best.

Give yourself time to heal. Don’t try to shortcut this process. A year or two is normal. Don’t apologize to anyone for not “bouncing back” right away and don’t even think about dating again until you’ve taken that time to heal.

Leave silently and file immediately! You’ll realize very quickly that men completely change when they’re not getting what they want from you anymore.  People saying to be nice and that you don’t need an attorney have never been divorced. Even if you agree on every single thing, you need someone to protect your interests

Get a PO box

Unlike most women here who are clearly staunch advocates for divorce, my advice is going to be a little different. Divorce is just an option in a marriage, but it should be the last option after every other options have been exhausted.

Be kind and civil. Journal. Reconnect with girlfriends.
