My third grade teacher was a gentle, older woman (she retired before we finished elementary school). One day Mrs. Kent decided she’d read us Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. For those unfamiliar it tells the story of a Japanese girl who gets leukemia and tries to fold 1,000 origami cranes to have her wish (to be cured) come true. Spoiler: she dies before she can finish & her classmates fold the rest in her honor. This book is not a good choice for a read aloud 1/?
