I have a friend here in Spain who gives me a hard time when I say I’m “American” but I know he only does it in jest. He’s an “Americano” but first and foremost he’s “Venezolano”. It’s also important to remember, Americans didn’t name themselves. The British were the ones to first refer to the colonials than lived in the “American colonies” as “Americans”. In almost a reversal, they were “British” but also “American”….
