He was baptized as an adult...to show us...this is a decision.

Because infant baptisms are nowhere to be found in scripture. Baptism is done when you make the conscious and willful decision to publicly display your death burial and resurrection with Christ

Because infant baptism is not of God and not biblical.

Because one could not be baptized into Christ before his death and resurrection. Christ came to and did fulfill the law, part of which was to be circumcised on the 8th day. Baptism is not something we do for God, it is something he does for us; for infants, four year olds, and 8 and 98 yr olds. It also can and should be done for those mentally challenged, learning disabled, even those with dementia. Because mental capacity does not determine God’s ability to do his work in us, God be praised!

It’s pointless babtizing a baby; they can’t make choices. Is Catholic dogma

Because his ministry started later. Here’s the real question tho, why did it take 1500+ years for someone to come along and finally find out we shouldn’t baptize infants? ESPECIALLY when the direct disciples of the apostles were baptizing children and infants!

Christ being baptized is different from the rest of us being baptized. Baptism brings us into God’s family as sons and daughters, which is not applicable for God incarnate, so there’s no reason for immediacy. Rather, Christ instituted a sacrament that fulfills the circumcision that was present in the old covenant, and the timing for this was appropriately at the inception of his ministry.

Christ wasn’t baptized as a baby because infant baptism wasn’t a common practice at the time, and baptism itself took on new meaning with the coming of Jesus. In the Jewish context, infants were initiated into the covenant through circumcision, not baptism. Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist occurred when He was about 30 years old, marking the beginning of His public ministry, not because He needed forgiveness of sins (since He was sinless), but to fulfill all righteousness (Matthew 3:15)

Christ was not baptized as we are baptized for the forgiveness of sins. He was baptized in the context of His earthly ministry in order to sanctify the waters for the use of baptism.
