My husband’s birth certificate has a hyphenated last name (mom/dad last names as one). As he got older he stopped using the hyphen and went with the last one (his dad’s). So our sons use their paternal grandfathers last name. You don’t have to continue with the hyphen. Ask your husband which one has more meaning. Or choose the one that sounds better with your last name.
