Can we please stop saying "slaves" and say "people who were enslaved". There's a big difference.

Something I switched to awhile ago. People don’t realize the importance of person first language. When we regulate people to the condition we only continue the perpetuation of dehumanization.

A lot of people lack the empathy to truly understand what you are saying. It’s not about that being the definition or not, it’s about how we address people as PEOPLE first. Sure they were technically slaves, being that wasn’t defined them as people. That is what they were forced into and made to be. Before a slave they were PEOPLE, and it’s important that we reflect that when speaking about them.

Moses said to his flock ‘Remember you were slaves in Egypt’. If it’s good enough for the prophet to refer to his chosen people, it should be good enough for anyone.

Luigi Mangione didn't shoot a CEO. He shot a person who worked as a CEO.

Changing your terminology to describe a subject does not change the subject matter, it just massages your own moral worries. Perfect example is homeless vs unhoused people, it doesn’t change anything because THEYRE STILL HOMELESS
