13 years ago today, I asked a group of middle aged met outside a bar if I could “borrow a smoke”, and they made a lot of fun of me because I said “borrow”, like I’d return the cigarette when I was done. Ok sure, I was embarrassed, but more so annoyed at how much they mocked me.
