If you own a Doodle, what’s the actual reason you got one opposed to just a Poodle or the breed it’s crossed with?🤔 dogsofthreads

I went with the Standard Poodle. They're amazing animals. 🤷‍♂️ 10:1 odds for non-shedding or soooo cute as why people buy oodles of doodles.

I’m allergic to dogs. My daughter wanted one badly and I would have rather gone into anaphylactic shock than say no to her again. So we got a goldendoodle because they are hypoallergenic. Have not had any allergy issues with her these last four years, or with another doodle we dog sit.

I have a cockapoo (I know, not a doodle, but mixed with a poodle) and we picked him on a whim. Went to go look at a schnauzer and just could not let this soul stay in the chaos!

I had purebred heartbreak (literally got on a first name basis with my vet because he was there so often) before my cockapoo but still needed allergy friendly. They are for sure overbred and you have to do a lot of work to find a healthy one, but I wouldn’t change a thing about our girl. Doesn’t take away from how much we loved our purebred guy but I needed different this time.

We got our first doodle basically because we were uneducated when it came to poodles. Poodles always had wild haircuts, super long noses, and seemed high-strung. This would have been at least 20 years ago, and doodles were almost unheard of. We liked keeping the light-shed aspect and the curliness of the poodle, while having more of the golden traits. That being said, I still probably wouldn’t get a poodle, but I’d definitely have a golden if I could keep up with the fur.

I took my autistic daughter to play with dogs and find one that wasn’t overwhelming for her as she was overwhelmed by big dogs. There was one calm little puppy that followed her around but didn’t jump on her and we brought her home. She’s been the best little doggie ever ❤️ she’s a shihpoo. Great lap dog. I would have preferred a bigger full poodle but it was about what would work with my girl. One day I will have a standard poodle.we also have a golden that we are training to be her service dog

Our first dog (in the 80s) was a purebred golden retriever from a reputable breeder, a sweet boy who died of a crippling illness the vet couldn’t cure at age 7. Purebreds can be illness-prone. A friend with a wonderful doodle recommended the hybrid when our last dog, a pound mutt, died. Payt is 11 and has been such a delight that we added a second nearly 7 years ago. Highly recommend!
