Ok, I need some other parent’s opinions. My 5 year old is grounded has been for almost a month now. My husband (his step dad) is upset at me because last night I gave my 5 year old ice cream after dinner…. apparently my parenting is weak. If your child is grounded do they still get dessert or no. Also want to add. For THANKSGIVING he wasn’t allowed a piece of pie or no type of sweets per him and his “parenting” so I finally gave him one scoop of ice cream last night.

This is not about whether it's OK to give ice cream to a grounded child. I'm not sure what grounding at this age could mean, and a month long punishment of a 5 year old is not age appropriate. Your son needs to be protected from this.
