KLM flies the same route, this was last October above the North Pole.

Eastward is always a good route because of the rotation of the earth during the flight and the winds.

A route that flies over nearby "friendly" airports where to land in the face of a breakdown

Credo sia tutto per la rotazione della terra che volando nel senso contrario aiuta ad accorciare i voli

You have to watch the first episode of the new season of Dr Stone to understand this.

It's the shortest route NOW, because planes can't fly over Russia. The shortest is over Russia. I've been to Asia multiple times before the war and everyone was flying over Russia. Today only chinese and russian planes can or decide to fly there. From places like Singapore and Taiwan the route back to Europe is still westward avoiding war zones (I just did Taipei->Milan westward, 15 hours). From Japan, after the Russia/Ukraine war, the route swithced over the Pacific and North Pole
