I had a college reading level in 6th grade. I am 72 years and sometimes read YA books. Anyone needs to be able to read what interests them. It is how learning continues.

I won’t let my students take them out either, but they’re 16 years old 😂😂😂

As an undiagnosed autistic child, I read way beyond my reading level. Like, college level in fourth grade way beyond. (Not that I could fully understand the context and implications, but I digress) My son has been able to sight read since he was two. Obviously he’s also autistic, so I anticipate having this same issue… luckily our local library won’t care so I’m gonna tell him if his teacher gives him shit, he can either take a stand and ill support him, OR he can simply side step them ;)

I am a teacher and I cannot understand that teacher at all. Sometimes children take books beyond their own level of reading so their parents or elder siblings can read it to them. In fact this should be absolutely encouraged! I read Harry Potter/ Percy Jackson etc to my pupils and my own children for their pleasure! We should never ban any book from a child- not a book that we would find in a school anyway! Her behaviour is very bizarre and should be challenged. Wimpy Kid books are the best!
