I usually check the overall rating and a few of the 2* reviews when it's below a certain threshold, just to see if the negative aspects are dealbreakers for me. This is before even buying a book! I do also check reviews after I'm done to see how many people agree with my thoughts, but I don't do that every time. Usually just when I either really liked or massively disliked a book.
