There was an article in the Sacramento Bee or maybe another big city paper yesterday about the many isolated and less economically developed counties in the northern part of CA you may want to read if you really want to get away - behind the Redwood Curtain. Also, you’ll be surprised that while the overall cost of living is less in OR, the cost of housing in Portland and Eugene is disproportionately high, and outside of those areas the state is more purple-red than blue.
