if you go out in a place where tipping a server is considered "normal" (aka the US) and you do not tip 20% because "it's not my job to pay their wages" that's fucking embarrassing. broke behavior

Shallow attempt to shame me for how i choose to spend my hard earned dollars. I tip according to the level of service I receive as how it's meant to be. Do me right you'll be tipped properly. Pull that entitlement shit and more than likely you'll get a low tip.

This argument about tips is bullshit. A tip is a simple thank you for your service, not your wages! If you can’t live off your wages then ask management for a raise so you can afford to live, or find a different job that pays a decent wage. It’s the employees fault for this argument not the customer’s. If the employer’s can not hire people because of the wage they pay they will either go broke or start paying better wages. A tip is a gratuity, in other words it is a thank you not a wage.

Tipping should be a flat amount and not a percentage. If I go to a restaurant and my server brings out 2 plates and 2 drinks and each gets 1 refill and the amount comes out to $30 but costs $100 at a different restaurant why are they entitled to a bigger tip because the meal cost me more when they’re doing the same amount of work in both scenarios? I don’t tip based off percentage and only ever tip between $5 and $10 depending on how the service was regardless of the total cost of the bill.

IF the US were to go to a no tipping culture….. 1. Hospitality would lose talent 2. Service would be slower 3. That cost would be l passed onto the consumer actually making your meal more expensive 4. With tipping you get a choice Worked in restaurant for over 20yrs I wouldn’t have done it for an hourly wage. The allure of the hustle to make more tips is what keeps it going. 🤷🏻♀️

The only reason tipping even exists is because no one wanted to pay Black people to serve them— so they made their wages meager and people started tipping. Fuck everyone in these comments who see servers as less than deserving even though your ass could NEVER even imagine doing that work for a stranger. Y’all should stay home cook your own meals and make your own coffee too.

When did 20% become the standard gratuity? It was always 10-15% with a 20% tip being reserved for service that goes above and beyond. A server shouldn't expect to just show up a table, take the order, and maybe pour a refill or two to get a big tip.

America is an example not to be emulated. Why it's people think that it is.. I've no idea. You get the two quid I normally tip and nothing more. Be thankful for that. Here in the uk we don't expect tips, not even if we go the extra mile. It's healthy mindset. You need to fix so many things and this is just one of them.

Do a better job and maybe you'll get that 20%. Only in America do you believe you're entitled to tips even with shitty service
