As a software engineer who went through the American education system, I honestly don't think the average computer science grad is qualified to work at many top tech companies. The number of students who graduate without ever building a real, meaningful piece of software, and cheat through countless computer science courses while struggling with basic fundamentals, is absurd. My friends who landed new grad jobs on H-1B visas got those jobs because they were highly competent and qualified.

7 小時內	jmamunes	You also have many parents who insist teachers give their children “A’s” even though they didn’t earn the grade. In other countries not everyone is assumed to be college bound like they are here and parents support teachers and students want to respect both.

I’m lucky enough to work with international students in my internship and I’m learning a lot but the gap in resume/portfolio between international and stateside CS is broad. I’m my opinion I think we focus too much on theory, which is important, but not enough on application which is the basis of proving yourself in the job market.
