Urgent care would have been more appropriate. Are you dying? Then it’s not an emergency

I almost died from a kidney infection 11 years ago. I was in and out of it, I had a fever of 103 and rising, I went to the urgent care who told me I had a uti had I not gone to the er I would have died on my couch. I was admitted to hospital and then got emergently transported to a higher level hospital and had to stay for 2 weeks.

The ED can also be used for illnesses that may not be life-threatening initially, but can lead to life-threatening situations.

Wrong. My friend went to UC with suspected kidney infection, thinking it would be better than clogging up ER. UC didn’t even assess her. Just yelled at her for not going to ER.

Kidney infections are triaged as CAT 3 not immediately life threatening but needs treatment within a fair amount of time. RN in triage should have put a bag of Normal Saline pending on blood results.
