i don’t understand . if a business is too broke to afford the ability to accept credit cards why don’t they just not accept credit cards or raise 10 cents to all their items to cover the cost without us feeling robbed by the business we are giving money to.

一小時內	Ben Templesmith templesmith	No, because not everyone chooses to use your expensive form of payment. Why should someone paying cash, a fee free public system, pay for your choice to use a corporate for profit system that takes a percent of your money each time you decide to use it?
2 小時內	Sheldon Rogers shuttershed	Credit card fees are processed on a percentage basis. Raising the cost of any item doesn’t change the fact that the fees is still 4.5 percent of the entire check. It actually makes the fee higher.

Businesses set their prices, but the cost of accepting payments varies by method. Some absorb the fees, some raise prices, some pass along fees where applicable, and some avoid credit cards entirely. Go to a restaurant in an Asian neighborhood and you’re sure to encounter this at some point. You shouldn’t feel cheated by this. Passing the fee to users is a fairest approach.

19 小時內	trailtalesandtides	It's not just accepting credit cards, it's the NFC terminal and software upgrades that are needed. It can cost a business tens of thousands of dollars for new software alone, depending on what they need the software to do. Terminals are the same, depending on how many they need. There are a lot of Apple users out there, but many don't use Apple Pay anyway, and most have other forms of payment, so a business needs to feel like the investment is worthwhile. Many do this by charging fees.
