A friend & I went to a busy restaurant for lunch. The podium to put your name in was a few feet from the door. As we were waiting a young man came in, went around us & stood right next to the corner of the podium. I knew he was trying to cut in. My friend also whispered in my ear the same exact sentiment. Sure enough, he did, but being as I’m a pissed off 70 yr old and tired of crappy people, I immediately stepped up & advised I was next, politely & firmly. Done being a door mat.

So, instead of assuming the worst or thinking it's an age or gender thing and getting my panties in a bunch, I err on the side of understanding and politely say, “Excuse me, but I’m next.” 99% of the time, the response is a smile and apology. The other 1% I chalk up to the happenstance of being a classless human.

This woman marches right up to the window and tells me “ you’re gonna have to move. I want my privacy when I’m talking to the pharmacist.” I told her “I’m not in your chain of command. I don’t answer to you.” She didn’t know what to say. Finally, I said “you can ask me to move back. And she did…very nicely. 1/2

He was also there for a scheduled vaccine and it was scheduled after me. Despite me calling it out, guess who they still served first? Yep the white guy. I’m so over the entitlement.

It may be the invisibility factor that starts setting in around 55-60 but by your 70s you may acquire this wonderful don't-give-a-shit-what-you-think attitude. That along with no hair dye and no makeup are so freeing.
