I think it's 4k textures and uncompressed audio but I don't work in game dev so I can't say for sure

Quality of assets grows exponentially. Raising a texture’s resolution makes its size multiply by 4. Example: 1K (~5.33MB) to 2K (~21.33MB) to 4K (~85.33MB) to 8K (~341.33MB)

Optimisation is a lost art. Used to be necessary with fixed media sizes. Now sky is the limit and optimisation is put on the low priority list.

because games aren't just code. there's also audio, textures, models, map geometry depending on the game

It's got nothing to do with the code, everything to do with textures for objects and locations

A few years ago I noticed there was a lot of uncompressed audio in the folders, for COD I think.
