Pete Alonso bet on himself. He did not have a bad year but it was inarguably his worst season with the Mets. Career lows in WAR, HRs, RBIs, and slugging with near lows in everything else. If he believes his 2024 statline was an anomaly then he should double down on the bet by taking the $90m over 3 years and plan to opt out after putting up monster numbers next year. It’s great that he is so durable as to play 162 games but there’s a world where he only plays 150 and doesn’t even break 30 HRs.
