Dear foreign travellers (especially from one country in particular), no, your home currency is NOT accepted everywhere. Stop trying to pay with it. No, it is not up to the store attendant to calculate the currency conversion for you. Download an app on your phone and do it yourself. I see this so often. Today’s example was 2 ladies berating a poor lady in a local shop in Lisbon for not taking their local dollars and not knowing the Euro to Dollar conversion for what they were buying.

We paid in Euros but saw a group arrive in minibus and they expected to be able to pay in dollars. Said they didn’t have Euros. Not acceptable behaviour.
