I go all the time, usually alone. I take public transit from the East Bay. There are a ton of unhoused people and pepple using drugs in and around the streets with BART stations. Not a single one of them has ever bothered me aside from making me very very sad about their situation. Then when you get away from that, it’s totally different. People don’t know that quite a bit of the city looks like this:
