It's a classic trope to do with series like this. Cliffhangers suck but this basically confirms season 3. It's wise from a business and writing standpoint. The fans will thirst for season 3 while letting the producers come up with a resounding way to finish the story. Take Arcane as an example. They left season 1 with a major cliffhanger, but still delivered with season 2.
