No original films in the 2024 box office Top 10. Surprised? I’m not. Audiences have been conditioned to avoid risks like watching original films. The studios run by shareholders hate risks as well.

Theater going is too expensive for the audience to take a risk on an unknown IP. And the ones that would, stay home, because theater etiquette is basically dead at this point. I live in a college town, it's nothing but people with their phones out that talk the whole time.

Off the top of my head Psycho, vertigo, strangers on a train, the Godfather, Goodfellas,Jaws, The Shining, Dr. Strangelove, 2001, Jurassic Park, jojo rabbit, Oppenheimer, were all based on books. Citizen Kane was a Broadway play. The Wizard of Oz was a book and had several films before the beloved version we all think of. IP is not inherently bad, sequels are not inherently bad thing.
