I've never rented. Purchased our first rental property in our early 20's and continued from there. Purchased our current home during the biggest dip in the market when the interest rates were low. You're building equity and mortgage payments are lower than rent right now. Yes there are repairs and upkeep,but you plan for it. It works for us, but it may not be the best choice for everyone.

Fixed mortgages still raise like rent which blows and any maintenance now falls on you. Idk at the moment I kind of miss renting lol

The other tough part is finding good and trustworthy contractor. The downside is you have to fix it yourself instead of calling maintenance.
