I never saw it as an attempt at an insult whatsoever.. It's just sarcasm because the two seem to be obsessed with each other like a married couple. It's more a commentary on how fake their relationship is while outwardly acting like buddies, because we all know they are both raging narcissists. Frankly seeing this take is weird to me and almost jumping to an implicit conclusion where I've not seen anybody imply that they use the terms because a homosexual relationship is insulting.
