Does America really have a shortage of qualified engineers, or just a shortage of those willing to work for Elon Musk?

there is no shortage, that is a lie pushed by oligarchs and corporations. they abuse the work visa programs to avoid paying US citizens a real wage. corporations have been using wage theft to justify increasing their profits.

Both, engineering degree in USA costs $250k, in India $15 k. Of course india will produce more engineers. N usa fewer.

Did we forget that when he took over Tesla and Twitter, to assert his dominance Elon Musk laid off thousands of engineers????? It’s not about shortage of talent, it’s that no one wants to work for 1) low wages 2) toxic work environment 3) a man who’ll take the glory for their hard work 4) a man who claims to be a genius but doesn’t understand the basics about what his talent does, yet wants to dictate to them on how to do their work

Yes. There is a shortage of all kinds of people with STEM educations in the US. And a friend who runs a PhD program in mechanical engineering told me he has never — in 30 years — had a US-born student in that program.

My friend spent 5 years building a department at Twitter. The apartheid nepo baby walked in with his sink & within weeks my friend & the bulk of his department were sent the midnight emails. My friend was very well qualified to work there, as were the others in his department. There isn’t a shortage of qualified workers. Elon just wants H1B indentured servants he can force to work abusive hours for the wages he chooses to pay them. He doesn’t respect his workers.

We truly have a shortage of engineers and have for years. My brother is 60 and a mechanical engineer. He says there’s not only a shortage but many don’t have the necessary skills because they are learned on the job. So we need more affordable and accessible education AND apprenticeships.

I was recruited by Spacex and told them to fuck off. Spacex has a bad rep as far as I know for long hours, poor pay, and culture
