I understand why you may want to guard yourself from pain however, those closest to you cause emotional pain. If your parents, significant other or even your children cause emotional pain, then what will you do? Will you cut them out your life? Pain is a part of life. We will feel it from those we love to those we don't love. But it's not about feeling pain that's the problem but it's how you handle pain that makes the difference.
