1- Review what you buy regularly on Amazon. What are you using it for? Knowing this leads to the next step: where else can you get that? If you're using it for baby items, can you get those at a local grocery store? If it's for gifts, can you start giving experiences instead?

Question-what are best techniques for finding an item on Amazon and then buying directly from the manufacturer?

We quit a couple years ago and have been totally fine. Got used to not having things ship quickly really easily. For Xmas this year I got a Pocketbook reader which is a fantastic alternative to Kindle that doesn't require Amazon, you can actually (really) own your ebooks, and it doesn't advertise at you!

Sadly, re #1, where I live, I cannot get items locally. I have tried. Mainly pet supplies. I tried to change to Chewy but they won't ship to Alaska. So I am stuck.

DC-er here- I want to decouple myself from Bezos but I swear he owns half my life. Current WaPo subscriber & will likely let that lapse in Feb. Prime subscriber, I get my One Medical membership half off (the only PCP I have found so far in the city to listen to me is there so have a hard time leaving, and I was with them before Bezos bought), I get my RXs through Amazon pharmacy bc they are cheapest I have found BY far, and I have a WF 2 blocks away. But trying as best I can. Sucks he got DC too

Cancelled all streaming and cancelled Amazon

There’s a lot to be said about home-bound & disabled folks, especially lower to middle class filks, needing services like Amazon. It’s not simply just local alternatives & ethical considerations.

Where do you listen to books? I like audible but would give it up for a decent alternative

I also use a Chrome extension (Personal Blocklist) that blocks amazon from my search results.
