Do you mix your own music also? If so, then your mixing starts from the arrangement and composition. Think classical orchestras: no compressors, no EQ and no effects. Just gain, if even that. The composition practically mixes itself. Thrive for that and your mixing will be effortless regardless of the genre!

start learning the different main aspects of mixing (e.g. EQ, Compression, gain staging, reverbs etc.)Learning them seperatly is was easier than getting a full mix done right away

When I open a new mix, I start with a basic fader mix. Listen to the song. Make a decision as to what you envision the song to sound like. Make choices and go from there. Always be sure to Identify your problems. Confirm they are problems and not artistic choices and clean up what is necessary. If it’s editing, that tends to happen early on. Compare to level matched finished reference mixes throughout (understanding these are mastered and yours are not).

Do it as often as possible and learn the tools and trust yourself. If it feels right, you’re probably doing it right. Lean heavy on doing less is more.
