While I was a working barista, I was assaulted with mace, sexually harassed, handled multiple mental health crises while on shift, stalked by a customer, and worked too many 10-12 hour days to count.
That doesn’t even begin to cover the hard skills of coffee and soft skills of hospitality.
Over seven years and I never made more than $15.45 in base pay.
This isn’t to say anything except that food service work is hard and goes far beyond what you see on the surface.
