Keep in mind that there's also bias in the way the LDS church teaches about church history. Just like how school here in the US teach American history through rose-tinted glasses. Every group with history does that. Here in America, we teach that Columbus was some genius who was the first and only person to think the world was round (which is false on every count). Criticism is important to hear. The early LDS church wasn't perfect by any means. It was full of racist, misogynistic people.
