People are manipulative. And kind people, sensitive people, ones of good will are often their targets. Don’t play their game. Stand your ground. Gifts are not mandated. And gifts are especially not necessary for someone who is only occasionally around as she is. Thank her for her gift. If you’re uncomfortable with how it all came down, return it without explanation. You owe her nothing and that’s what I’d give her.
