I think a lot of women can relate to this. When you have a perspective where you can empathize with Ellen, the disbelief (and well intentioned, but misguided proselytizing) from her loved ones looks so much more sinister than mere misunderstanding. Her loneliness and Otherness perpetuated until it truly was too late.
