It would be illuminating to state on average how much more immigrants on H1Bs can make in the US vs their native countries. There are a significant number of teachers in my small home town from India and the Philippines on H1Bs making more than local teachers and we talk about just how much more they're able to make doing so while still sending money back home. This same small town hosts a prestigious public engineering university with very few local students in attendance.
