Do I believe in the separation of church and state? Yes. There is no mention of God, Jesus or Christianity in the United States Constitution. You don’t have to believe in a Christian God to be an American (in fact, you don’t even have to believe in any god). Freedom of religion is actually clearly specified in the First Amendment in the Constitution. The United States has no national religion; and this is very much intentional. Some of the Founding Fathers were victims of religious persecution.
