Sadly I’m not surprised. I tried getting excused when I was very heavily pregnant and about to give birth (scheduled induction due to preeclampsia risk). The judge (a woman!!!) told me that wasn’t a valid reason and I’d just have to go in until I gave birth.

6 小時內	Your Legal Doula yourlegaldoula	Uh, that’s insane, and I’d be drafting a complaint to the commission on judicial discipline citing every pregnancy protection statue, state and federal, I could find.
8 小時內	Aussie ARA aussieara	That decision doesn’t even make sense. If you gave birth mid-trial doesn’t that then affect the case as they’d be down one juror? Australian here, our system seems more sane, you can be excused if you have a sensible reason.

My first jury summons was in NJ for the week I was due to deliver, and I had no trouble being excused.
