Okay. Why suddenly are landlords the devil? Why does renting a nice house with a yard to a family who are not ready to buy. for any reason, suddenly “unethical? Have we run out of things to talk about???

If the housing market was dominated by mom & pop landlords, it would be one thing. For one, it would actually be something of a free market. Increasingly housing stock is dominated by REITs and hedge funds running through Wall Street. This is a huge power shift. The home I originally owned is now owned by some out-of-state LLC (the person I sold it to died).

Rent gouging. Not allowing families with dogs or cats (not allowing a grownup to have a pet is simply cruel. I’m in rescue and the number of animals being abandoned due to landlord restrictions has created an enormous issue.) I live in Marin County, Ca where hovels rent for $8k/mo

In all the years we rented, I am thankful for the homeowners that were willing to rent to us so our family had a safe place to live. Without rentals we would have been homeless basically.

The problem arises when companies buy up a bunch of houses in an area to rent them out. it reduces the number of houses available to buy, and raises the prices.

This is what happens when people drink the blue kool-aid, they become a victim of any and every external force, while losing their reflection in the mirror.

I think it’s more about gouging and raising the rent every year just because you can even though your mortgage doesn’t change.

Landlords aren’t the problem. I own multiple rentals, and rent my primary home. Landlords are fine. It’s massive hedgefunds who buy 100-200 homes in a concentrated area and then neglect them to the point they become blighted or infested with squatters. Often times these corporations have never even set foot in the state they own these homes. It’s a MASSIVE issue in innercity neighborhoods. It’s not the same as an individual person who owns a few properties they take care of.

Private equity has bought up housing stock to be landlords. That's where the problem started.

Marxism keeps rearing its dissatisfied head and is creating chaos for the benefit of the people who make millions off of communist government systems that don’t really care about “the people” any better than other ideologies. People who fantasize that Marxist ideology will bring about nirvana are useful idiots.
