American workers realize it doesn't *have* to be this way, right? Like, a whole bunch of countries both pay workers better AND guarantee 6 weeks or more of paid time off each year, all while still attracting businesses, supporting small businesses, and having robust economies. How has the ruling class brainwashed people so hard?

Plus, health care. It’s a human right. And holy cow, what a boon the economy universal health care would be. (Not to mention ethically and morally the right thing to do, God or no god(s).

Name the whole bunch. Aside from minor nations, I can only think of Switzerland and Norway.

Coming from a country where we have a good minimum wage, guaranteed 4 weeks annual leave, at least 16 days public holiday, 10 sick days a year, compulsory 11.5% superannuation (I think you call it 401k), universal health and I don’t have enough charters to go into long service leave. It’s so interesting reading all the responses of people attacking each other over this post. You really do live in a society where you only look out for yourselves.

Insufficient education and access to education. Not paying teachers higher wages and not granting them money to purchase the materials to teach and help influence their students to think creatively or outside of the box. Creating school loans and allowing high interest rates to discourage or disgust people from attending higher education. Creating a credit score to resort people to follow in line to reach dreams of homes, land and cars. If no good credit score they can't buy or rent homes.

Wages in most other countries are actually really horrible, tbh. Wages in Europe are embarrassing.

Exceptionalism, America is a world leader, this is the hard work it takes to lead the world. The gamble of the American dream, there is a chance (next to none) that if you work hard enough, you can make it. The median age of an American is <40 years old, whilst a significant proportion of Americans are in some form of medical debt the majority aren't (yet) and so this isn't an immediate problem for them. Also, apathy, it's just the way it is.
