Wow, many of my same exact memories and thoughts of him. I was only about 6yrs old when he was elected into office. My young impression of him was he was very kind. I loved his accent and that he had a young daughter, Amy. I do remember being sad he wouldn’t continue to be our president. I also remember, in very vague terms because of my age, the impact the Iran hostage crisis had on his reelection. And peanuts, I remember a lot of talk about peanuts, lol.
