Because people are fewer educated than they once were and spend less hours studying the importance of grammatical accuracy?

Jeezus the people in this thread are insane. Linguistics has long settled on the practice of descriptivism and y’all grammarians need to stfu imo. Fewer and less mean basically the same concept and you know it. Yes, some people use them in different ways, but that doesn’t mean that the huge amount of people who use less for both purposes are doing anything wrong. There is no right or wrong to language dictated by some arbitrary rulebook, you classist prescriptivists.

Well based on your bio you're a professional of words. I am a Weapons Engeneering Technician Specializing in under water Weapons and sensors. How come you can't tear apart a torpedo launching system and put it back together? We all specialize in something different. No need to be condescending twats about it.

It’s generally a meaningless distinction. They both refer to smaller relative sizes of quantities. The fact that one is for countable quantities and the other is for uncountable quantities makes no difference to the everyday person, nor should it.

Because it’s an arcane rule that doesn’t make a meaningful difference 🤷♀️

I wish there were fewer and / or less posts like this which judge people for not being able to articulate nuance in a complex language. Maybe if we judged eachother less for unimportant things, there would be more harmony between people?
