I lied, put your clothes back on. Let’s talk about how telling people that talking about their trauma will retraumatize them is unsubstantiated and actively harmful.

Let’s talk about it. I read the article. I won’t address the whole criticism bc too much typing/opportunity to be misinterpreted. It’s not as simple as talk about/don’t talk about it. It’s when and how someone talks about it. Different people have wildly different needs when talking about their trauma. Some need exposure, some cbt, some somatic, some all of the above and more. It’s also about how supported someone is in their life as a whole.

So glad this article is surfacing now. At the point in my program where we are reading this book, and the body remembers, and can’t wait to bring this up in our discussion

Interesting article. I haven't read The Body Keeps the Score, but it's in my Audible wishlist. I had an interesting experience in my internship. I did an intake with a young woman who had experienced severe trauma. ALL she wanted to do was talk about her traumatic experiences. NO ONE would let her. My supervisor said "What if she talks about her trauma then goes home, relapses [on heroin] & ODs?" I felt horrible. I'd told the young woman she could talk about whatever she wanted. -->
