I think adulthood is realizing that you don't have to run and jump into your bed any more out of fear of an invisible monster attacking your feet. Now you have only to worry about a spicy kitten attacking your feet from under the bed, and you now have to slowly ease into bed in case the spicy kitty is taking a nap under the covers. CatThreads
