I don’t know whether the Vikings organization would do this, but they could apply the franchise tag and pay Darnold somewhere around $40 million next year. That would give them a year to see whether Darnold is just a one year wonder or is really the guy he has looked like this year. That would also let them see whether McCarthy shows signs of developing into a top quarterback. Then they could make a decision on which to go with for the future.
