The problem is, right now, that guy crashing through your front door is not thinking you’re going to be armed and so is either (a) armed with a knife or bat or something or (b) not going to shoot first and ask questions later. If the assumption is you have a gun, then he will be much more likely to shoot you at first sight because the only way to be safe around someone with a gun that has reason to hurt you is to take them out first.

And end up in jail because you shoot someone - your logic is not logical.

Most cars have push button start and they don’t even need to crash through your door to steal your keys, they just need to stand in front of it and copy the FOB.

So you are sleeping and what you have a loaded gun on your bedside table? What if your child comes running in your room scared because of the noise and bang you have just shot your child?

This assumes that you have the gun on you all the time and have time to pull it out of whatever holster you have it in and shoot. Otherwise all you’ve done is given the intruders a weapon and they can use against you and your family. Which is more likely to happen.

Really! You would take a human life over a car? Just so you know, Canada does have laws against excessive use of force in defense of property. Unless you're being threatened with death or grievous bodily harm, shooting someone would likely get you charged with murder.
