If it's through your job it's your employers responsibility to add your baby since they control the deductions, which could be different if you are moving from single to family or parent child coverage . We have our portal open for anyone to do a life event and approval. I wouldn't expect the employee to call the insurance company

Benefits manager here. Birth is a qualifying event to add the baby but the time limit given (either 30 or 60 days, depending on the plan) doesn't allow you to choose an effective date. If you're covering that baby, it's as of the date of birth. If you wait until the last minute to add your baby, it just causes more issues. Also, you have roughly 8 months to research this before the baby is born.
