Me: "You've got a great view from your room!" Patient: "Oh, yes, I'm enjoying it." Me: "I think that's north...so I guess you can't see Fort Vancouver from here." Patient: "Oh, Fort Vancouver doesn't do a New Year fireworks display. They always do the Fourth of July, though. They do a really nice job on that one." All righty, then. Patient is oriented to date, location, AND knows more about local events than I do.

I worry for the future for me because the questions I see ambulance workers ask wouldn't go well even now. I never know who is in charge of my government as it changes hands so often there's no way I could answer that accurately all the time, I rarely know what day it is unless it's the first or last day of my work week. I have multiple times forgotten how old I am. I don't recall my door number or postcode if I'm stressed or tired and even forgot the name of my road when a dog walker asked me

I had a dementia patient ask me just today what day it was and honestly? I know the date, of course, but the DAY? I used to work Monday to Friday and always knew then, but since I started nursing I have no idea any more 🙃

My mom had frontal lobe impairment. The ER doctors would ask the same questions and obviously she memorized the answers. She outsmarted her rehab meal system until her children caught her and demanded a meeting. She wondered how we figured it out. I reminded her the article that said 90% of intelligence comes from the mom and unless she wanted to admit something what did she think was going to happen. We had to keep a better eye on her.
